Welcome to Thailand! On arrival at the airport you will clear customs and collect your bags. You will be met by our representative at the airport who will transfer you to the hotel. Check in the hotel (early check in not guaranteed) Rest of the day is free and easy. Later in evening depart for Chao Phraya River cruise tour – You will be welcomed aboard the White Orchid River Cruise at River City pier with a fruit cocktail drink. Set sail along the Chao Phraya River, also
known as the River of Kings, to Rama VIII Bridge. View the city by night from a riverside aspect and have a unique opportunity to take snapshots of the illuminated prang of Wat Arun on the Thonburi bank of the river. On the opposite bank in Bangkok you will see the glittering Grand Palace and the holy temple of Wat Phra Kaew (Emerald Buddha) in all its night-time finery. Enjoy a buffet dinner with a selection of Thai and Western dishes.
Take the dance floor if you please, to the accompaniment of the live band, or relax on the open-air deck in the evening breeze. We expect to return to River City Pier just before 22:00. After the tour you will be dropped back to the hotel. Overnight at the Bangkok hotel. Meals: Buffet Dinner
Breakfast at the hotel. Today morning depart for the half day city and temple tour of Bangkok. A tour of historic and modern Krung Thep, or ‘City of Angels’ as Bangkok is known to the Thai people. The programme includes a visit to Wat Jetuphon (better known as Wat Pho), the oldest of the city temples situated opposite the Grand Palace. The temple is renowned as Thailand’s oldest university and there are instructive murals illustrating the finer points of Thai massage
which is still taught and practised here. The highlight is the 46 metre long and 15 metre high statue of a reclining Buddha. Also included is a visit to Wat Traimitr, located near to Bangkok’s main railway station. The temple houses a 5.5 tonne gold Buddha, which was discovered when its plaster casing broke whilst being transported to its new home from the port area. The tour terminates via a visit to a jewelry retailer. After the tour you will be dropped back to the hotel. Overnight at the Bangkok hotel. Meals: Breakfast
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will depart for full day excursion. Depart for Ratchaburi province and Damnernsaduak floating market. On arrival at Damnernsaduak, take a boat trip along the canals where farmers from the surrounding district, paddle and peddle their produce fresh from the soil to the market wharf. Continue to Kanchanaburi for lunch. The province will be associated with the Bridge on the River Kwai and the ‘Death
Railway’ constructed by POW labour through Thailand to Burma. Visit the eponymous bridge, reconstructed after its bombardment by Allied forces, and the JEATH Museum located on the grounds of a Wat, giving an insight into the daily grind for prisoners working in a jungle under an unforgiving tropical sun.
Visit the Donrak War Cemetery, maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission before returning to Bangkok. Optional visits during the tour include a Snake Farm, an Elephant ride, the handicraft works, and a Tiger Temple. After the your you will be dropped back to the hotel. Overnight at the Bangkok Hotel. After breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport for the flight to Chiang Mai region. On arrival at the Chiang Mai airport you will be picked and dropped at the hotel. Check in and freshen up. Breakfast at the hotel. Today depart for a full day excursion. The tour begins on the route to Mae Ta Maan Elephant Camp, which is 56 kms north of Chiang Mai. Observe how trained elephants are used as working animals in teak forests. Enjoy elephants bathing in the river, working in the jungle, elephant painting, dragging and pushing logs and responding to commands. Take a special adventure on an elephant ride for an hour through the jungle, making a stop at the Lisu Hilltribe
Village whose inhabitants originate from Tibet. In the afternoon continue the trip on a bamboo raft along the Mae Taeng River for 45 minutes. Drive to visit the Long Neck Karen or Padong tribe. The women wear several brass rings around their long, slender necks. Padong originate from Shan state in the Union of Myanmar. Also visit the Palong tribe, the smallest group found in Thailand. Breakfast at the hotel. Today depart for the half day city tour of Phuket. Phuket, the largest of Thailand’s islands and a province in its own right, roughly the size of Singapore and once a port of call for shipping on trade routes between east and west. Although attracting visitors now for its tropical splendour, the early Siamese settlers came here to mine tin. Later, it became a magnet for Chinese immigration and sports a variety of cultures, with almost as many mosques in the
province as there are Buddhist temples. See the remaining Sino-Portuguese architecture in Phuket town, reminiscent of Malacca. Visit Wat Chalong in Chalong bay south of the city. Judge Phukets reputation for its bounty by visits to the orchards (fruits on display depends on season), and an orchid farm. Also visit the Laem Phromthep, a cape at the southernmost tip. Pass Kata and Karon beaches before returning to your hotel. Overnight at the Phuket Hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel. Today depart for the full day excursion of Phi Phi Island. The Phi-Phi islands in Had Noppharat Thara National Park, 48km east of Phuket are amongst the most renowned in the Andaman Sea. Transfer to the Fishery Authority Port of Phuket to board the boat bound for the isles. The tour starts with sightseeing on board around Phi Phi Ley Island closely passing by Maya Bay (where the famous scene of ‘The Beach’ movie starring Leonardo Dicaprio took place), Loh Samah Bay, Pi-Le Cove, and Viking Cave, where
nesting swifts provide raw material for birds nest soup (no entrance to the cave by law). Disembark at the island of Phi Phi Don, board the long-tailed boat to Laemtong Beach (Long Beach) for leisure activities on your own – swimming, snorkeling, or maybe strolling uphill for a view over the isthmus. Buffet lunch is served at a local restaurant on Long Beach. Return to Phuket in midafternoon and transfer to hotel. Overnight at the Phuket Hotel. Meals: Breakfast & Buffet Lunch
